PlaySpace Therapy Services
Occupational Therapy Evaluations
We offer comprehensive evaluations with a full written report, treatment plan, and parent meeting to review findings. We evaluate sensory processing issues, gross and fine motor skills, visual-motor, visual-perceptual, and handwriting skills.
We offer comprehensive evaluations of the behavioral, sensory and oral motor component of feeding issues. These issues may include inadequate intake, selective or picky eating, sensory based feeding challenges or oral motor challenges with chewing and swallowing.
Natalie Powell, ET, provides educational therapy services at PlaySpace. Natalie specializes in dyslexia assessment and therapy. She blends approaches from Orton Gillingham, Lindamood Bell, and Making Math Real with her own unique methodology, and her students learn using active, multisensory methods that help information stick.
Independent Educational Evaluations (IEE)
We work with school districts to provide outside evaluations to support Independent Educational Plan (IEP) team decisions. IEE contracts are established between PlaySpace and your child’s school district, if determined by the IEP team that an outside assessment is needed.
Individual Treatment Sessions
Individual sessions with your child and his/her therapist. Sessions are recommended for one to two times per week, pending results of the evaluation. We also offer summer intensives.
Social Skills Groups
Social skills groups are run by Nan Arkwright OTR/L at PlaySpace Therapy in the evenings and on weekends. Social skills groups are set up like a play date and are appropriate for young preschoolers through middle schoolers with social-cognitive weakness/social immaturity and often, mild behavioral challenges. A child with age-appropriate skills is part of each group.
The focus of the groups is to practice interacting with peers in a natural, safe, and supported environment while playing on gross motor equipment and engaging in a variety of activities and games. The goal is to build skills in areas such as self-control, self-regulation, attention, peer interactions, communication, sharing, personal space, transitions, problem-solving, waiting, flexibility, perspective taking, and perseverance – many of the foundation skills that support not only social, but also self-regulation, learning and sensorimotor development.
Older children also participate in a guided discussion covering advanced topics appropriate to the group dynamics and developmental level of the participants e.g. fairness, standing up for yourself, making good decisions, and responsibility.
